Elements of Shamanic Psychology. The Rite of the Crowd. The Collective Mask.

Elements of Shamanic Psychology.
The Rite of the Crowd. The Collective Mask.
The mask is the external aspect that I – Ego decides to show.
Aware or not of what it does.
But in a group, in a collective group I – Ego in order not to unmask itself in front of the collectivity of others Ego tries not to differentiate itself from the crowd in order not to reveal all of itself to all the others.
Being different from others is like isolating oneself and being noticed and becoming a subject of interest, judgment, aggression. For I – Ego it is like losing one’s defense. Here is the mask useful to every ego that investigates a new environment.
If it cannot hide itself, it cannot dissimulate itself and remains without ambush or defense strategies.
Therefore the crowd forces the different identities of I – Ego to conform to the behavior that wins at that moment.
Even those who dissent conform to others.
This “forced” collective consensus is essential in collective rites that in the group, or tribe are guided by the shaman adopted by the community.
Everyone adapts with their own mask to the one adopted by the group, guided by the authority of the shaman or sorcerer.
The energy of all converges and creates a powerful, concrete, real synthesis that emotionally and lastingly conditions the consciences of each.
The rite is effective because it enters the unconscious behavior of all and modifies it in an accepted and consensual way.
The I – Ego disappears for a moment, gets confused, identifies with the rite itself as if it were in love with it and conditioned with shared acceptance.
Leaving the rite in the end is like leaving another reality just experienced with power and sharing.
It is like waking up from a dream in which one lived totally inside another identity.
It is like leaving a movie theater, and discovering ordinary reality, confused by such a leap in awareness.
PS. In “politics” the quality of attracting and conditioning the attention of the crowd is a form of power disguised as shared consensus. Especially now also in Western “democracies”. The political personality must learn and master shamanic techniques even if only as masks to condition his audience. As in religious officials “priests” are officials who play a part in favor of those they represent. Such characters are part of every political organization and their sensitivity is used by “sorcerers” without the sensitivity of true shamans.
